2026 Multispecies Census

Living Classroom Plan.jpg

A rough guide to aging trees.

We use a general way to estimate the age of trees by measuring the circumference of the tree's trunk (at about our shoulder height) and then dividing the number by the tree's growth factor. To do this we need to identify the species of tree. Did you know that trees grow faster in open spaces than woodland?

We are learning about what our schools grounds looked like before our school was built so we can think about the lives of some of our oldest (and leafiest) community members.
